CPR:Community Partners in Reading

CPR is designed to help struggling 2nd graders reach their reading potential before the 3rd grade.
CPR provides each student with individual reading instructions Monday through Thursday.
Each child is paired with a community partner who works with him/her in a reading lesson planned by
a reading specialist. During the 30 minute sessions the child will get to read a leveled book,
work on vocabulary exercises, and play a comprehension game.

Interested in being a Community Partner?

- the role of the community reading partner is to commit 75 minutes
a week to participate in mini-lessons as well as reading with two
children for 30 minutes each. You can choose to read with students
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

Program hours for 2006-2007

SES: Supplemental Education Services

SES stands for Supplemental Educational Services and refers to extra help in the areas of reading, language arts,
and mathematics. These services are provided outside of the regular school day and are free of charge to children
who qualify. Generally, students who are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch and are enrolled in a Title 1
school that has been placed on the state’s “needs improvement list” for two or more years qualify for the free tutoring.
Children in Monroe County Community School Corporation that attend Fairview Elementary School and Highland Park Elementary
School have been offered the SES Services. Highland Park Elementary School has been granted a waiver to participate in the
SES Flexibility Pilot Program in Indiana. Students who qualify and take advantage of these services will work with the
provider and the school district to set academic goals, plan a schedule of services, and determine how the child’s progress will be measured.

For additional information on SES in MCCSC, contact Deb Prenkert at dprenker@mccsc.edu.
