General Information

This is a graduate course required of all new Computer Science department associate instructors. The purpose of this course is to introduce teaching methods, strategies, and address issues that arise in individual classrooms. Through participating in class discussions, researching a topic in pedagogy, and practicing micro-teachings you should finish the semester with a better idea of what a true teacher is and what it takes to be a "good" teacher.

In order for you to become this "good" teacher, you must attend each evening of class. Without your attendance in the course you will be unable to become that "good" teacher. As you will see below, I expect you to attend each session and if not it will affect your overall performance in the course. This means that it will affect your grade. I am sure none of you will fall into this category of missing class. Look below at the assignment weights that I will be basing your grade on.


Course Deliverables and Grading

Readings will typically be assigned for each class period, and the latest information about readings will be listed on the class website. Please come prepared to discuss the readings that are assigned. Class discussions are important, and I expect all students to participate. Your grade will be based on completing assignments and class participation.

Feedback Sheets

The criteria used in grading each assignment will be distributed and discussed in class. Be sure that you have a copy of the feedback sheet for each assignment. I will use the feedback sheets to give you an explanation of how I evaluated and assessed your performance on various assignments. Your grades will range from 0 to 10 for each assignment. All assignments are to be done individually without the assistance of fellow classmates.
