Tue and Thu this week we spent the lectures working (or rather getting started) on the last four assignments. Hints on approaching homework assignments 7, 8, 9 and 10 have been distributed in class. They have also been posted on the A113 web site under "What's New?" so you can download them from there. If you haven't finished them already you may find the two short materials useful. A new dropbox will be opened for next week, when the current one will close on Sunday. The final exam is during 5:00-7:00 p.m., on Thurs., December 16 in SB221. If you have questions or concerns please let me know. We will use both lectures on Tue and Thu to work on assignments and review material for the final so please come, and ask questions. ... Adrian

List <dgerman@indiana.edu> Subject: Re: Midterm Exam on Thu (in class) Dear A113 Friends, Just a reminder the midterm is tomorrow, in class, SB221 2:30pm. Up to this point (and including the midterm exam) our efforts have been aimed at making sure you're building a strong relationship with the book. I am confident now that you can use the book effectively in looking up concepts and devising strategies---so less time should be spent in class doing what you could be doing on your own outside of class. Homework assignments might start appearing increasingly complex to you--- even with the posted help, and sometimes in spite of that. So starting on Tuesday, and continuing to the end of the semester lectures will lean more towards helping with lab work and homework assignments as well as briefly highlighting the main ideas in the new chapters. The final exam will be like the midterm---only from the entire book. Thus we should do well to allocate more resources to the homework assignments by discussing some of those in class (lecture) together with how concepts in the book should be chosen and applied to the various problems, such as the ones you're suggested to work on for the homework assignments. ... List <dgerman@indiana.edu> Subject: Midterm Exam on Thu (in class) Dear A113 Friends, The midterm exam is on Thu (this Thu, 11/18) in class. It is an open-book open-notes exam. I posted a list of topics to review on the class website http://www.cs.indiana.edu/classes/a113 I also posted all the assignments (and assignment help notes) to the end of the semester and the drop boxes for all assignments are already open, so one can turn assignment at one's earliest convenience. I will come through labs on Wed and again on Fri to touch base with everybody. With the help of your lab instructors we hope to have all the grades for all the lab/homework assignments already turned in, in the gradebook before the end of this week. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the exam. It will be similar in structure with the sample/mock exam administered in class about a week ago. Thanks for your continued interest and we'll see you in class tomorrow. ... Adrian
